Today, my mom's friend left for Houston and it was just the two of us. We went through the city, running more errands, making my room feel more comfortable and we kept missing Daisy. I didn't have her phone number at the time so we just kept missing each other by literally 15 mins.
My mom and I ate at Pasta Nostra again the night before, so we decided to try Casa Botin, which is the oldest restaurant in the world (est. 1725) just down the street from Plaza Mayor. We were there early and sitting at a cafe a few doors down and at 7:50pm it seemed like there were at least 20 people there. We jumped up and got in the crowd (we were there first) and once the doors opened at 8pm, we were in. Just one second, we thought we were in. My mom saw that the host had a reservation sheet out. My mom gasped and said oh no, we don't have one. It was our turn to talk to him and my mom told him that we didn't have a reservation so he moved us to the side and sat us at a table in the front. I thought we were going to have to wait ages to get a table upstairs, but then a waiter came by and gave us menus, plates and silverware. So basically, the fact that we were early and without a reservation made it possible for us to get a table. If someone had some 30 mins later, they would've had to wait until maybe 10:30-11pm.
Our meal consisted of shrimp cooked in hot olive oil, with garlic and herbs (delicious). Then Andalusian gazpacho which was quite lovely and then roast suckling pic. If I haven't already put up the pics, I will soon. The pig was sooo good, with little potatoes on the side. My mom asked the waiter to take our picture. Then she went to the kitchen area to see them actually cooking the pigs and they had rows and rows of them ready to go. That was definitely an experience and we have the menus with all the little details. I have to bring my dad here.
Then, later on, my mom couldn't resist the churros con chocolate at Chocolateria San Gines, which are amazing and super unhealthy haha. That's like a one every few weeks treat (although we had some last night with my mom's friend). We shared a cup of chocolate this time and added some powdered sugar...yumm.
I decided to stay over at the Westin Hotel for the next two nights, to keep my mom company :)
