Hey everyone.
Just wanted to catch everyone up on my last few days here. This was the first full week of classes for my intensive Spanish month. I have three professors: Juan (funny and very energetic in the mornings), Paula (very sweet and super fun to converse with in Spanish) and Ruben (He is just hilarious and very direct). I basically take Spanish language, culture and conversation classes starting at 10am (M+W) and 8:30am (T+Th+F) but I get out around either 1:10 or 2:30 every other day except Fridays...out at 11:20am.
I have a good group of people in my classes, Joe, Cynthia, Michelle, Celia, and Margarite. Most are from the Mid-West, but Joe goes to school in D.C. and Celia is from Denmark. In Juan's class we go over grammar (which doesn't sound fun) but we've already done some "grammar" games and he constantly is asking for questions, comments, or jokes...maybe I'll tell one at some point (but it'll have to be in Spanish). In Paula's conversation class we were basically discussing people, mainly those who are famous, including Spain's A-List people like Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, and Pedro Almodovar. We played the post-it note game yesterday, where you put a person's name on a sticky note and place it on someone's forehead and they have to guess (I was last again ladies...for some reason I never ask the right questions lol..I had Bill Gates). Juan and Paula did a great job of making us feel super comfortable the first day, so it's easy to speak or if you make mistakes not feel terrible. Finally Ruben, he is just hilarious. He's always dressed well and likes to tease us (just a bit). We do more of the cultural stuff in his class, talking about gestures, personal space, relationships between people etc. Trust me it's way more fun than it sounds...I actually enjoy going to class everyday.
For the past few days I've been getting to know more people and I have a group of friends I hang out with quite a bit: Alston, Blake, Daisy, Judy, Jordan, Brittany, Matt, Charlie, John, Joe, Emily, Carly...etc. So it's fun making new friends again...I think that's why I liked moving around so much..you get to meet great people you otherwise wouldn't have if you had never taken that journey. We're trying to plan trips all around Spain and maybe to Rome or someplace cool. I'm definitely making a trip to Paris to see Evelyn, my friend Sam's best friend (for friends following me here who don't know her), so that will be another adventure. We've tried out numerous cafes and restaurants over the past few nights, and we struck up some really interesting and at times deep conversation (yay!). So in short, awesome new friends will make for a great semester.
But don't forget...I love you all too.
Oh before I sign off, I went with ISA (our group) to Toledo on Saturday...(put up the pics already). It was beyond beautiful and I finally saw the painting by El Greco "El Entierro del Senor de Orgaz"- The Burial of the Count of Orgaz, which some of you remember seeing in freshman art class with Havemann. It was really cool and the Lord of Orgaz (he was never really a Count) is actually buried right underneath the painting...half cool and half creepy haha.
So not sure what the plans are for this weekend but I'll talk to you all soon.
Make sure everyone clicks the Follow button, so I know you're my real
friend...jk...or am I? :)
Besos
