Hello everyone!
So I finally have stable internet in my new residencia. I just moved in today although my mom is still here for a few more days. I'll keep her company over the weekend but I wanted to try a night on my own. I haven't met Daisy yet who is in my program, but I do have a single room to myself, in a hall that has 6 other rooms, a living room and kitchen. I just made some friends tonight through my two Italian roommates Federico and Ylaria (his girlfriend). Sadly, Federico and Alvira are leaving next Tuesday (31st). They are medical students here in Madrid. There is a whole group of medical students who live above me as well so they told Federico that they wanted to meet their new neighbor, so he brought me up and although I could understand most of what they were saying, at times I was a bit lost. I definitely got that they were talking about Inception at one point, which they had just seen earlier that night. We tried playing this guessing game that I thought was about what illness you have but then it turned into answering questions about the person on your right and whether you are right or wrong, helps the guesser....I have no clue haha. Everyone was very friendly though, Marta, Arturo, Jose, Luigi, Pedro etc. I'm a bit tired so I decided not to go out tonight, but I think I have friends now, so maybe I'll join them later. Anyway, let me tell you all about my second day in the city.
Day 2-
My second day in Madrid was lovely. I was the tour guide for my mom and her friend and I took them to one of my favorite places in the city, El Parque del Retiro. The park was gorgeous and we decided...well I decided for us, that we would row boats on the lake. After 45 mins in the hot sun, we decided to have tapas for lunch and afterwards, took a journey to find my university. I thought I handled the metro pretty well considering I've only used it once before two years ago. It took about 30 mins but we finally got to the area of my school and for a second I wasn't sure where to go because Google maps seemed to picture the metro stop a little differently. I asked for directions and took some random streets and finally found my school (Antonio de Nebrija). It is small compared to university standards in the U.S. but it was very cute. There is supposed to be an awesome view from the back of the school overlooking a forest. We took a different way back to the metro using BING on my mom's phone (it was shorter) and hopped on the metro back to Gran Via (Broadway/ Times Square of Madrid). On the way out of the metro station, my mom and her friend wanted to look at some dresses in a metro shop and while they were looking, the shop attendant was on the phone speaking in Russian and Spanish to someone. I was amazed that I would find someone who speaks Russian so quickly in Spain. I asked her how she was in Russian after she got off the phone, and she was pleasantly surprised.
For dinner we went out to this Italian restaurant (Pasta Nostra) which has amazing food and our waiter was so funny, trying to learn some English while he was taking our order. I think he was only a few years older than me.
After dinner, we decided to turn in early, although my mom woke us up at 3:00am talking with my dad at home. We got little sleep that night but we powered through the next day, which I will write about tomorrow!
Besos y abrazos
